Pedestrian Simulation

Predictions on pedestrian flows based on human behaviour models to improve building efficiency, accessibility, safety, and user comfort

Mobility simulation can be very useful to predict human behaviour in buildings with high human density such as stations, hospitals, shopping centers, schools, museums, or production sites. Information on the flow of pedestrian can also be combined with information on public transports, vehicular traffic, movement of goods, social connections, and access to public spaces.
Imagine to start the design of a new train-station, a place where every minute really counts. Imagine to have information on the quantity, cadence, and position of in- and out-coming trains, buses, bikes, and pedestrians. Imagine to be able to simulate the natural pedestrian flow in that empty space without having a building design in mind yet. By observing how people would naturally move in that space you can start to think about architectural solutions that will contain an innate efficiency. Stepwise you can then start to integrate additional functional elements like ticket-desks, shops, and entrances, and gradually verify the interaction between the architectural solution and the behaviour of the future users.
